Smoky black is one copy of the cream gene on black. Smoky blacks must have at least one parent with the cream gene. Cream does not dilute black so smoky blacks usually look like normal blacks, but some will appear faded. Sometimes it is not known a black is actually a smoky until it produces a foal that has the cream gene or it is genetically tested for cream. Smoky blacks fade in the sun like normal blacks do.
